Электронная система погашения долга путем банковского или почтового перевода денег. Должник заполняет специальный бланк, в котором указывает наименование (имя) получателя платежа, его адрес и номер счета. Одним переводом можно перевести деньги на счета нескольких кредиторов. Рост популярности такой системы погашения долгов привел к тому, что в 1961 г. банки создали систему кредитного клиринга, а в 1968 г. - систему безналичных переводов между почтовыми счетами. Платежное поручение или, возможно, последовательный ряд платежных поручений, переданных с целью предоставить денежные средства в распоряжение бенефициара. Как платежные инструкции, так и указанные в них денежные средства перемещаются из банка плательщика/инициатора в банк бенефициара, возможно, через ряд других банков-посредников и/или более чем одну систему кредитового перевода.
